ETLC holds Essay Writing Courses for all students from Year Seven to Year Twelve. Different classes are held for different ability levels. The emphasis is on comprehension, analysis of texts and essay writing skills. It is essential for students not only to understand pieces of writing, but also to study how the author conveys his or her message. Technique analysis is an important component of analysing any text being studied. After learning how to analyse any text, students must then be able to communicate their understanding in writing. Students must learn to write in many different formats. These varying formats all have different characteristics for structure, language and tone. The sooner students learn about these formats, the easier it will be to use them effectively in the School Certificate and the Higher School Certificate. It is essential for students to frequently practise writing essays in order to improve. At ETLC, students’ work is promptly analysed and returned at the next lesson, so that students can quickly implement the corrections and suggestions made. This immediate feedback facilitates and enhances learning. |
