Holiday Essay Writing Courses
ETLC holds Essay Writing Courses for all students from Year 7 to Year 12. Different classes are held for different ability levels. The emphasis is on comprehension, analysis of texts and essay writing skills.
It is essential for students to understand pieces of writing, and to study how the author conveys his or her message. Technique analysis is an important component of analysing any text being studied. After the analysis of a text students must then be able to communicate their understanding in writing.
Students must frequently practise writing in order to improve their essay technique. At ETLC, students’ work is promptly and thoroughly analysed and returned, so that the students can quickly learn from and implement the corrections and suggestions made. This immediate feedback facilitates and enhances learning.
Fortnightly Junior English Classes
ETLC holds fortnightly classes for students in Year 7 to Year 10. The lessons consist of a teaching section in a small group, a writing section and an individual help section where the teacher discusses the student's writing and gives advice on how to improve. The focus of these lessons is on grammar, comprehension, text analysis and essay writing. All of these skills are essential in preparing students for Senior English.
Fortnightly Senior English Classes
There are separate courses for students in Year 11 and 12. Small groups of students learn how to analyse and compare texts, discuss techniques, improve creative writing, practise sitting for HSC style exam questions and develop essential essay writing skills. Comprehensive essay marking helps direct students to improve their writing.
