ETLC - Success for the future

Testing

At every level of our mathematics teaching, students are tested every week. These tests are designed to find holes in students’ knowledge, so they can do their test corrections and hence learn from their mistakes. The tests are marked during the lesson time by a second teacher and are returned to the students before they leave ETLC. Immediate feedback is a valuable component of effective learning.

There are major end of term exams, where students practise and develop their exam technique. Due to the regular testing program students become desensitised to having to perform under pressure and test nerves quickly reduce.

Lessons

The content of the lessons is based on the syllabus as designed by the Board of Studies. The material we use is unique as it is created by ETLC. The classes are taught by the director Jan Aspinall or by teachers specially trained by her to ensure that her high standards and methods of teaching are uniformly implemented in all of the classes. The teachers discuss mathematical concepts and work through examples in class. The teaching is continuous throughout the lesson. Students are not left to work on their own as they can do this at home.

Homework

Each week homework is assigned. During the lesson a second teacher checks and records that the homework has been completed. Parents are able to contact Jan to discuss their child's progress.
