Effective study skills and examination techniques can make a huge difference to a student's performance. Spending many hours studying is not necessarily going to bring a student to his or her full potential unless both the study and the examination strategies are well planned and well executed. Jan Aspinall, Director of ETLC, will be running study skills seminars in the school holidays (or during term time for small groups of eight students) to help students learn how to plan their study time and prepare themselves effectively for their examinations in Years Eleven and Twelve. These seminars, which will be for small groups of students, will be available at Eastwood and Roseville. In the two and a quarter hour seminar, students will be instructed in how to manage their time in the very demanding senior years at school. They will also be given an opportunity to construct their own study timetable with all of the necessary additional features which help them to adhere to the timetable. Examination technique is another area of HSC performance which will be addressed. Too many students underachieve because of poor examination technique, and not because of lack of time spent studying or lack of ability. They do not know how to approach an examination and how to develop a strategy which will result in them performing at their peak. There are many practical strategies which will be discussed with the students at the seminar. A copy of Jan's book "Successful Study and Examination Strategies For Maximum Performance" will be given to each student who attends the course. The aim of this course is to motivate students to produce their best and help to provide the necessary skills which facilitate the fulfilment of their HSC aspirations.
